Healing is at the center of my approach to therapy
Freedom is at the heart
MY APPROACH
Freedom is inside you, waiting.
You may feel stuck, trapped, weighed down, or helpless, but I believe in your immense capacity to heal, grow, and free yourself. Life will continue to present challenges, but you can have an easier relationship to your emotions, your experiences, and the people close to you. Personalized, professional therapy can support you and help guide you in this process.
Every person is unique and multifaceted, and likewise I work integratively to engage the tools and practices that will best serve you. Through building a genuine and trusting relationship, we will discover what is most effective for you.
When we’re stuck and in pain, it’s often a signal to look at how the past is showing up — in our thoughts and patterns, in our relationships and reactions, in our unspoken beliefs, even in our bodies. Time and again my clients find that their struggles in the present have deep roots in the past. I use psychodynamic and somatic methods to uncover, heal, and release the old wounds and inner scripts that are preventing you from moving forward.
I also use narrative, existential, and mindfulness approaches to center your strengths and activate change. I draw from the latest in neuroscience and behavioral health research, and from a systems perspective, where we reckon with the larger systems we are part of and how they shape our experiences.
SPECIALTIES
ADHD
If you have ADHD and it feels unmanageable right now; if you're wondering whether an ADHD diagnosis might explain the difficulties you’re having; or if you're struggling with some of the traits and challenges that overlap with ADHD — it doesn’t have to be this hard. I feel strongly that there is nothing "wrong" with you and that it’s possible for you to increase and improve the skills you need.
I work with clients to develop and implement practical, actionable strategies to better manage their ADHD, as well as therapeutic support to address the psychological and relational challenges that often come with it. With advanced clinical training in ADHD, I approach this work with expertise, compassion, and neutrality, along with an advocate's enthusiasm for helping clients function more successfully and feel better about themselves.
Couples
Just as individuals grow and change over time, so do relationships. What was once easy, light, and fun may now feel complicated, tense, and lonely. Life transitions introduce many new stressors to a relationship. Unresolved hurts, conflicts, and resentments simmer over time. Old patterns and unhealed attachment wounds get in the way of trust, safety, and true intimacy.
In therapy with couples, I attend to each individual in their own experience as well as to the relationship between you. In shared work, we have the opportunity to slow down, notice and interrupt the cycles and dynamics that aren’t working, practice repair and new ways of relating in real time, and rebuild connections that feel healthier and happier.
Grief & Loss
“… all things are born small
and grow large –
except grief, which is born large
and grows small.”
— Marcia Falk
Grieving is a lifelong process, and never linear. It can look different at different times, and can affect all different parts of ourselves and our lives, including our brains and bodies. Grief can be straightforward or complicated by a wide range of factors. There is no one right way to grieve.
Through years of clinical experience as a grief therapist with Pathways Home Health & Hospice, I have served clients throughout the stages of the grief process, from preparing for death to processing a death years in the past to facing a sudden or unexpected loss. I view grief expansively and also honor the need to grieve the loss of relationships, plans, dreams, identities, and more. I so often hear clients say they have no one else to talk to about their grief. I find it an honor to be that person.
Teens
Adolescence is a time of seeming contradictions. Teens often long for independence and adulthood, but also the security of home and childhood. They’re driven to discover and assert their unique identities, but also to fit in with others. Their bodies and brains are in flux and the world around them is more demanding and confusing than ever.
With a compassionate and approachable style, I can support your teenager during this challenging season of life and help them develop the skills, tools, and perspectives to move through it with more comfort and confidence. I also work with teens and their families to better manage ADHD at school and at home.
